Uaxactun (pronounced [waʃakˈtun]) is an ancient ruin of the Maya civilization, located in the Petén Basin region of the Maya lowlands, in the present-day department of Petén, Guatemala.
The road ends in an airstrip. First major dig on lime-dust covered road leading north from Tikal. It leads deep into large Mexican Mayan sites. El Zotz, Rio Azul and El Mirador.
Permission is required of all to travel on this road. From this point on the road peters out into several trails through the jungle.
