German Naval Operations School (Bremerhaven)

Right in the centre of the city of Bremerhaven, this is the one and only school of the German Navy to educate German Navy personnel in all facets of naval operations, including, but not limited to: Signals & communications, Navigation, Above water warfare, Under water warfare, Command & control.
The German Navy Maritime Tactics Centre is colocated on the compound.

In Jan 1954, I arrived at USNAB Bremerhaven as a Navy Radioman for duty with Communications Unit Eight. The station was on the second floor of the headquarters of the Marineschule, a majestic old building, which is no longer there. The radio station closed on March 31, 1957 in preparation to turn the base over to the German Navy on May 1. My last day there was April 15, 1957. I lived in Germany from 1983 to 1991 as a civilian, visiting Bremerhaven on many occasions until my final departure. I have fond rememberances of my time spent in Bremerhaven, not only on the base, but the town and the many friends and acquaintences made.
