Salinas del Bebedero

Argentina / San Luis /
salt lake, interesting place, salt evaporation pond

The Salinas del Bebedero are located 42 km southwest of the Argentine city of San Luis and 15 south of the town of Balde (in the area "bucket" means cistern), in a tectonic depression (saltwater lagoon of the Era Cenozoic, when the rains diminished, became a depression), framed by several geological faults. It is an important deposit of sodium chloride (kitchen salt), with 6500 ha and its mining goes back to 1900 when the Bebedero Lagoon already showed a strong desiccation.
