Depuch Island (its Aboriginal name is Warmalana)(area about 1,200 hectares) is a volcanic island off the Pilbara coast, between Wickham and Port Hedland, Western Australia. It is of major significance to the Ngaluma people and there are thousands of petroglyphs, engravings and rock art on its rocks and boulders. It was for this reason in the 1960s that plans to establish a port for the iron mining facilities in the area were abandoned and the port moved to Dampier.
The island was first charted in July 1801 by François-Michel Ronsard, the cartographer on a French expedition led by explorer Nicolas Baudin on board the ship Le Géographe.
