The first major generating station built in the Southern California basin, LBGS was owned and operated by Southern California Edison from 1910 to 1998. The site has some of the original buildings from the initial construction. The interesting thing about the station is it's below sea level now because of the removal of oil reserves in the area causing ground subsidence. Also, due to the subsidence, some of the operations at the site had to be abandoned when basement control area became flooded. The property is now owned by another power company, not generating any power and they are trying to return it to service.
