World famous Newbury Racecourse.

The grandstand is from the Maiden Erlegh race course (about 20 miles east of here in Earley, south east of Reading) which stood on an area which is to the back of the houses in Hillside Road, opposite Loddon Junior School. Sol (Solly/Solomon) Joel continued to allow racing until the First World War, then the Maiden Erlegh Racecourse was demolished, the grandstand being re-erected at Newbury racecourse.

  • This is one of the major UK horse racecourses. There are also other businesses there, fitness centre, golf range, golf course, conference centre. Has it's own railway station, curiously called Newbury Racecourse, which is on the London (Paddington) to Penzance line. The M4 motorway and A34 are close by. A racedays only airstrip is there, mainly used by jockeys and owners. http://www.newbury-racecourse.co.uk/
