Prior to Independence, Britishers has constructed a rope-way from 27th Mile on Kalimpong road, (now it is NH31A) side by river TEESTA, to Kalimpong (total 18 kms.). This place (Samco Firm)was the only stoppage. After independence, the rope-way became defunct. On an auction, Father Ruiller (from Switzerand) has purchased this small part (1.8 kms.) for the benefit of local villagers. That ran upto 2001 (after 8 years of his death) until an accident took place.

Father Ruiller was a swiss & he returned to his homeland at the age of 86yrs.elderly ppl of shepkhola, suruk, samtahar & panboo area still regard him as father.after him a young missionary from Goa took the charge of the firm but he could not run the firm successfully.Ultimately a group 5(including one ex-service man) took the lease of the firm. at present presence of NHPC changed the complextion of the land.the hand pooling ropeway is still functioning by the chowkider of earstwhile ropeway.
