Waziristan Haveli (Osama bin Laden's hideout compound) (Abbottabad)

This was the site of the residence and compound of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Built in 2005, the three-story mansion was roughly eight times the size of nearby houses and was surrounded by a 12 to 18 foot high wall topped with barbed wire. It had no internet and phone service connections. It was located by intelligence agencies in August 2010.

On May 2nd, 2011, a helicopter-based raid was carried out at the compound by U.S. Navy SEALS which resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden and several other occupants of the compound. After confirming his identity, bin Laden's body was removed from the area and subsequently buried at sea.

The compound was demolished on 26th February, 2012 by Pakistani security forces.

  • This site area is only 13000Sqft, also shadow of boundary wall is not half big ( considering 15 ft boundary wall) as of 3 story building.

  • For those uninitiated, 'Waziristan Haveli' does not translate to 'Osama bin Laden Compound'. It is merely a building title with the latter label 'Haveli' meaning 'mansion'. Titles like Haveli, Manzil, Niwas, Sadan etc. are common in Pakistan and the Indian subcontinent.

  • this would be the yard area itself...it is split in two and angled as a triangle....on side of the yard is not visable to the other...the unusal stucture is the compound itself.... .not the house
