Beautiful high arched bridge set in a stunningly picturesque setting - only spoiler being the the noise from A470 dual directly above on west side of valley - but still not enough to spoil setting as trees hide the road. The bridge is now part of the Taff Trail cycle route (see sustrans cycle routes on net ) The bridge links the stunning Taff Trail ride from Quakers Yard, via Edwardsville heading North towards Mount Pleasant/Merthyr Vale. At Pontygwaith you can either branch left then down the tarmac lane past Pontywaith Farm (with a tea room) to find Pontygwaith Bridge and head under the A470 then up onto the West side to follow the Canal Bank tarmac lane which takes you up the Taff Trail North towards Merthyr/Brecon or you could ride straight on and keep on Trevethicks Trail which heads into Merthyr Vale and continues in sections up the east side of the valley ending by Trevethick's Tunnel - Trevethicks steam Locomotive was the first to run on rails - way before Stephensons was around and it carried the first people ever from Merthyr to Abercynon. A replica of the loco is mounted outside Cyrfartha Castle.
It aapears the Bridge was also used in an episode of the BBC's Merlin in which a girl and a Troll have a picnic down under the bridge !!
