Octagonal with a porch extending west, the church was built in 1672 at the initiative of Baron Gustaf Rosenhane. The architect attributed with the construction was Nicodemus Tessin the Elder who designed other buildings for the Baron’s family. It was inaugurated in 1688. Before this church was constructed, the parish had a wooden church which was demolished in the 1700′s.
The exterior is virtually unchanged since 1760′s though the church has been restored several times. Most recently in 1994.

The parish’s oldest church was a medieval stone building now in ruins about 500 meters north of the present church.
