Sheptytsky (named after Andrey Sheptytsky, the Greek Catholic Archbishop of Lviv and Metropolitan of Halych) was named so in 1953. Before, had been called Chrystinopil., and then by September 2024 as Chervonohrad. The second largest coal deposit area in Ukraine is behind only the Donbas region, the area has 14 coal mines. The population is about 78,000.
