Rouen tourist bureau (Rouen)

France / Haute-Normandie / Rouen
 tourist information centre/center, interesting place

The Rouen Tourist bureau is installed since 1957 in the House of the Exchequer (French: Bureau des finances).

In 1509, Thomas Boyer, Exchequer General of Normandy, commissioned the architect Roulland le Roux to build the Hôtel des Généraux de Finances, which would later be known as the Bureau des Finances, or House of the Exchequer.

At the time, this brilliant architect was also working on the Cathedral's central portal, which is a prime example of the Flamboyant Gothic Style.

This small building however marks the arrival of Renaissance architecture in Rouen, with it’s distinct horizontal and vertical lines and it’s arabesque and grotesque decorations.

Disfigured in the 19th century by some unwise renovations, the building was subsequently purchased by the city for restoration.
