The remnants of a magnific coastal fortification. It's construction was ordered by Philip II and began in 1589. It was reformed by a great degree between 1731 and 1775 Along with the castle of La Palma and the castle of San Martiño, which are opposite, on the other side, it was used to guard the city of Ferrol. The fortification effectively defended the city in 1639 from the attack of the french admiral Henri D'Escobleau and again in 1800 from the attack of the english leadered by General Putney.
