Waldheide, used to be a NATO-Base

From 1951 on the area was used to be a airstrip and ammunition depot for the US Forces. From 1959 on the US deployed nuclear weapons here. It was the Pershing 2 rockets targeting Russia and their allies in the cold war.
US base in the 1980's for 36 Pershing 2 IRBM's. The launchers and missiles were withdrawn and destroyed under the INF Treaty with the Soviet Union.
