College Brief
The Sheikh-ul-Alam Memorial Degree College is the first institution of Higher Education Department in Budgam district. The college started its first academic session in 2005 with just 33 students.The number of students as well as the teaching faculty has considerably enhanced since then. Housed earlier in the borrowed rooms of Govt Boys Hr. Sec. School, the college finally shifted to its own building on 5th July 2009.This change of venue is by all means an important mile stone in the history of Sheikh-ul-Alam Memorial Degree College.The students now find themselves coming to a big spacious buliding, state of the lecture halls and many many acres of playgrounds.
Funded by the state Govt. the college is growing to meet the challenges of the 21st century. It offers programs leading to the degree of Bachelors of Arts and with varied subject combinations like Sociology, Economics, Computer Applications, Political Science, Education, Environmental Sciences etc. The college is expected to have all major and relevant faculties like Science , Computer applications in the near future , as the honorable Minister for Hr. Education Department has already announced it during his recent visit to the college on 16th of july 2009. Currently the college enrollment totals more than 550 students including both boys and girls. Under the supervision of Dean Student's Welfare, the college provides counseling and information to the students and seek students participation in maintaining discipline in the campus. Students are encouraged to be involved in the organization of various activities which include academic, cultural, social , health and sports etc.
The college has been functioning with the great zeal and enthusiasm, the result of which is the growing popularity of this institution in the district. The college is making every effort to nurse and nourish the inherent talent of the students of the entire area.
