Gysinge was founded in the 1660’s. Walloon forging was introduced towards the end of the 17th century and the works gradually developed into one of the largest in the country. One of the proprietors was Eva Höök, who managed the ironworks for over 40 years in the beginning of the 18th century. There are many surviving buildings here today. The stately mansion with its well-tended park, long rows of workers' and smiths' homes, swimming-baths, conservatory, inn, shop, warehouses and a forge are just some of them.
Now there is PRO Folk High School in a beautiful mansion in 1839. The college has, besides the main building, an additional seven large buildings, containing a dining room, lecture rooms and a dormitory with 107 beds.
Also there is Hotel Gysinge Wärdshus with 37 rooms.
