A Japanese Sengoku (warring states) period style castle/fortress from TOYOTOMI Hideyoshi's invasion of Korea (1592-98), built in 1597. In late 1598, the fortress which at the time was defended by general KONISHI Yukinaga was besieged by combined forces of Ming and Chosun forces, to which a Japanese naval reinforcement force was dispatched, developing into the Battle of Noryang, in which Korean Admiral Yi Sunshinn was killed in action.
