This school was built between 1893-1896 by the German government in a brick neo-Gothic style typically used for Prussian public buildings. It was originally named the "König-Friedrich-Gymnasium" for the Prussian king Frederick the Great.
In 1945, Breslau, Germany was transferred to Poland and renamed Wrocław. As a symbol of this, the Prussian Eagle mosaic above the main entrance was decapitated and plastered over, as was the German inscription below it. However, in spring of 2012, the mosaic was completely restored.
