The Townlands block was originally going to be mined via the Kwezi (K5) shaft (the old Boschfontein East). A second set of declines, namely the K6 shaft to the south east, has been planned for further exploitation of the orebody. Initially K6 will be used to supplement production from Kwezi Shaft, and eventually it will replace Kwezi as the sole ore source from the Townlands block.
