Town and the administrative center of Novosilsky District in Oryol Oblast, Russia, located on the right bank of the Zusha River 70 kilometers (43 mi) east of Oryol, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: 3,658 (2010 Census).

Novosil was first mentioned in 1155 as a fortress called Itil and was the seat of a branch of the Rurikid family in the Middle Ages. Novosil's town status was officially corroborated in 1777.
