Pritzker Prize winning firm Foster + Partners, under the direction of Lord Norman Foster, designed the Zayed National Museum following an international design competition featuring twelve leading architectural firms from ten different countries.
The design of the museum draws inspiration from falconry, a powerful symbol in the UAE and part of its cultural heritage and way of life, with five towers reminiscent of the wing tips of the birds. The building is designed to minimise energy usage by incorporating natural ventilation and lighting in the five towers using heat exchange technologies.
Zayed National Museum will be featuring the life and achievements of the founding President of the United Arab Emirates, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The museum, which will bring to life the UAE’s rich history, will also serve as a memorial to this great leader. The museum will showcase Sheikh Zayed,s story and the lasting influence of his reforms, with permanent gallery displays as well as a dynamic special exhibition program. Zayed National Museum will also stand as a symbol of the modernity of the UAE, and its rapid progression over the years
