    When during REFORGER ( Return of Forces to Germany ) on 1 OCT 1987 we toured this boat lift/locks. The West German Army Officer in charge of our tour was Oberleunant(LT) Lau. Our Officer was 1 LT Brost. We were from 2nd Armored Div. "HELL ON WHEELS", Fort Hood, Texas. This is on the Elbe-Seiten Canal. We lived at Scharnhorst Kaserne in Luneberg for about two weeks with the German Army. Hard to believe only 42 years before most American Soldiers would not have wanted to live with the German Army for one day. Now WWII is 63 yrs. ago.In 1987 WWII Veterans were not that old and many still around, not as much now in 2008. Only one WWI Vet still alive, he lives in the Great State of West Virginia. Hard to believe REFORGER '87 was 21 yrs. ago now.
