The "Fort bij Uitermeer (Fort at Uitermeer)", type tower fort, was built in 1845 as part of the New Dutch Water Line (which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site). It was also part of the Stelling van Amsterdam (Defence Line of Amsterdam, which is also an UNESCO World Heritage Site).
The fort was mobilized both in 1914-1918 and in 1940. Before World War II, several casemates and group shelters were built near the fort. During World War II, The Germans used the fort for storage.
