organ, listed building / architectural heritage, lutheran church/kirk, 1790s construction

Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony

The present church was built in the late Baroque and early Classicist style between 1764 and 1800. It is the home of the Kreuzchor boys' choir, whose tradition reaches back more than 700 years.

Another reminder of the great part Dresden played in music history is the sandstone relief in the Wedding Chapel bearing a portrait of Heinrich Schütz. Called the "Father of German Music", he was Hofkapellmeister (Court Music Director) in Dresden for 55 years.

From the tower you can look out over the roofs of the Old Town and far across the Elbe Valley.
