The waterfalls at Almonte on the Mississippi River have long been known for their beauty. The water drops 65 vertical feet with falls occurring at four different locations, creating a remarkable visual and sound display of water power.
Indians and early settlers alike stopped at the site, and portaged around the falls, along a route parallel to what is now Mill St., the historic business area of Almonte.
