MEHRAJ is a big village spreading across fields around,and a most developed village of punjab owing to be chiefmister's ancestral village.it has many things that othere villages around are short for. Moreover, it is famous for its historical significance as the 6th sikh guru had fight with mughals over two horses.ha ha ha..........but it was a lesson to be taught to autocratic muslims.a big sikh temple is located here called gurusar.a peaceful place anyway.

  • My Nanni(grandmother's village). Unfortunately, she was the only child(girl child) and before 1947, she could not inherit land from her father(He died while she was still a child, so both mother and daughter left everything and went back to her naneke village. Her father owned 70 acres of land. I never got meet my nanni as she also died when my mother was only 9. My mother tells me a lot about the Mehraj village. One of the greates in Malwa and the wole of Punjab and may have changed India's destiny!
  • My Nanni's father's name was Kahan Singh Sidhu and their home was near the pond(chappar) in Saul Ki Patti. His sister was married in Nabha. My nanni then moved to Dabri Khana(Now Gobindgarh in Jaito tehsil). Since her father died and they left everything - their 70 acres of land and home, my nanni and her mother had a very tough time. What a difference between Punjabi culture and Sikhism. Sikh Gurus taught equality -for everyone - regardless of gender, religion, colour, caste or creed. This is the basis for Canadian and American constitution.
