The Evangelical Lutheran church, built in 1756, is the oldest wooden church in North Carelia. The rectory dates from 1841 and the Parish hall from 1856. The belfry, circa 1760, was re-roofed in 1990.
In the Church grounds there is a monument to those who fought in the Winter and Continuation War 1939-1944 (Kalpakivi, "Sword Stone").The Fallen heroes burial ground, Sentinel statues and Memorial stones. Other monuments include a memorial to those who fell and were left behind in Carelia, (now Russian Republic of Karelia), Bishop Eino Sormunen's gravestone and a memorial to the people of Tohmajärvi who died of hunger during 1865-68.
