Roseninsel could be translated as 'Rose Island' into English. It is the only island in Lake Starnberg. The island was called 'Wörth' till the 19th century. Its size is a bit more than 2 hectares.
There is a small villa on Roseninsel, also called the 'Casino'. The name change from Wörth to Roseninsel was due to the impressive garden of roses designed by Carl von Effner. Bavaria's famous King Ludwig II spent a lot of time on the small island and received famous guests there, including Tsarina Maria Alexandrovna, composer Richard Wagner and Empress Elisabeth of Austria ('Sissi').
