  • Lived here in the late 50s, it was called Washington Heights. It was a little slice of Americana in the heart of Tokyo.
  • I've always wondered why it's called Yoyogi Park when it's located in Harajuku. I mean, why not Harajuku Park? After all there is a city part in Tokyo callde Yoyogi.
  • Washington Heights was returned to the Japanese to be used as Olympic Village for the 1964 Games. A comment on Wingu's remarks. Tokyo, as you seem to know, has weird, sometime very weird, district boundaries, and consulting a map would probably show that Yoyogi touches the park someplace, hence Yoyogi Park. Just a guess.
  • Regarding the name, Yoyogi (代々木) is the area to the west of the park. Harajuku is to the east. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoyogi#Yoyogi_Station
  • The address of Yoyogi buildings lie in 東京都渋谷区代々木神園町, or rather, Yoyogi-Kami-en-machi. (Devine-garden-area) by my primitive Japanese. It also borders with Yoyogi 4-chome, and 5-chome, and 1-chome. Whereas Harajuku is actually in Jingumae area. (In-front of shrine). So Jingu-shrime, and Yoyogi-koen appear to be in different areas as mentioned by RogerR
