Designed in 1861 by the architect A.J Humbert with decorative schemes organised by Lugwig Gruner, both of whom had worked together on the earlier tomb of the Queen's mother, the Duchess of Kent which stands close by.
The white marble Tomb figures of the Prince and Queen Victoria are by Baron Carlo Marochetti, they were both created in 1861 and thus depict Victoria as she was when her husband died, thus being a visual representation of how, in her view, her life stopped at Albert's death.
