This is a small town that used to have a general store. The store closed and now it's just a collection of houses.

  • At one time, in the early 50's,there was also a sawmill located here ownded by my grandfather, father, and at least one of my uncles, possibly two. I've been told that the footings for the mill are still there but I have not seen them. Just prior to crossing the RR tracks after passing through what is left of Gibbon there is a railroad maintenance area on the left and that area was where the loading dock was located. When I visited the area in 2010 the footings for the loading dock were visible but they have since been removed to create the mainentnace yard for the railroad. There was also a schoolhouse which has since burned and a private residence is now located there though not on the actual school site. I've been scouring the internet for any old images of Gibbon but so far have had no luck certainly hopeful that someone somewhere has pictures they will share online someday.
  • I once lived at Gibbon and and went to school there. I have a couple of pictures. Guy K.
  • I lived in the teacherage in the late 50's. My Dad, Merle Spencer, was the teacher at Gibbon school for five years. There were 14 kids in the whole school. I was the only student in the first grade and then the only student in the second grade the next year. I remember Raymond Gray. He was a few years older than me. As I recall he was once in a logging accident since he came to school one day with a white bandage around his head. Also remember Linda Gray. My older sister and I would walk the approximately one mile to her house. She was our closest neighbor. I think her dad, or uncle was Freddie Gray. I've been looking for pictures of the school house but haven't located any. I have great memories of living there from age 5 to almost 8. Larry Spencer-Chico, CA
  • Would really like to see the pictures wondering if you have any of the sawmill as well.
  • I lived in the store/post office until 1958, granddaughter of the owners (Myrtle and Dolph).
  • My grandfather leased the land for $1/year!.
  • The leased land was for the sawmill, not the store.
  • I remember your grandparents well. My grandfather, father, and uncles built a sawmill almost directly behind the store, between the tracks and the river. I started the first grade there in 1953 "Ruth Toner" was the teacher, and she lived in the teahcerage there with her mother. We lived at the home at the top of the hill, on the right as you enter Gibbon. My Mother planted two wild rose bushes on either side of the gate there and they are still there, or at least they were the last time I went by in 2013. Certainly would like to see any pictures of either the store, the mill, (I understand the mill burnt, but the footings are still there or were), and the old school house.
  • I would certainly like to see your pictures if at all possible.
