St. Olav’s spring was a medieval site of pilgrimage, and continues to attract tourists to this day. It is signposted for visitors. The spring is said to have emerged from the ground when King Olav Haraldsson, later canonised struck his staff on teh ground on the way to the battle of Sticklestad, where he was slain. St Olav was the one of the most venerated saints in Northern Europe until the Reformation.
