Kobanî

Kobani (Syriac: ܟܘܒܐܢܝ, Kurdish: Kobanî‎, Arabic: عين العرب Ayn Al-Arab) is the Capital of the Kobani Canton ( (former Aleppo Governorate) in Rojava Region, lying immediately south of the border with Turkey. Center of the Kobani subdistrict of Kobani district of Aleppo Governorate.

Since September 2014, Kobanî had been under siege by Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant forces, who as of November 2014 controlled the eastern parts of the town. In January 2015, after four months of being under siege by ISIL forces, Kurdish forces managed to drive the jihadists out of the city entirely, and all of the city and its outskirts were liberated over the course of the year.

Prior to the Syrian Civil War, Kobanî was recorded as having a population of close to 45,000. The majority of inhabitants were Kurds, with Arab, Turkmen, and Armenian minorities.

On 25/06/2015, the city was scene of a horrible massacre, claiming 300 lives. Infiltrating from Turkey, witch turned a blind eye, terrorist dressed in YPG and FSA uniforms, exploiting a weak spot. Women, children, babies and old people were attacked on the streets and inside their homes, many were made hostage. YPG managed to kill around 80 terrorists, some wich fled to southern villages.

Kobani is sorrounded by a 5 meter ditch, and has only 3 acess bridges.
