A round barrow 40ft in diameter and 3 ft high, known as 'Kity Hill' was situated a little beyond Garrowby in an angle formed by the York road and "Awnham Beck". Excavation in 1876 revealed many pieces of an Anglo-Saxon iron shield boss a little west of centre and near the surface. A little to the south-east of centre, near the base of the barrow were a few burnt bones accompanied by a crushed "British food vase of red clay since rebuilt". In the centre of the barrow on the old ground surface was a shallow grave containing a crouched female inhumation together with a bone pin and the remains of an infant burial. About 4ft east of centre and scooped out of the old ground surface was a dish-shaped hollow containing cremated bones and charcoal, covering several pieces of a "British food-vase". Resting above the cremation deposit was a crushed "vase of red clay, apparently British".

The ditch survives as a buried feature 4m wide. A brick shed has been built over part of the NW section of the barrow's ditch.
