The Sundown Drive-In Theatre was Saskatoon's last drive-in theatre had two screens and a concession building. Audio was broadcast over an FM transmitter.

Opened in 1965, it was announced in August 2007 that the property was for sale. It was unlikely that new owners will keep the theatre open, meaning Saskatoon's last drive-in theatre would have closed.

However, the deal to sell the property fell through, and as of 2009, the owners said that they would continue to operate the theatre as long as they could.

The summer of 2009 proved to be one of the theatre's most successful years in recent memory, owing to a growing nostalgia for drive-in theatres and their increasing rarity.

However, the next year was closed and the storage business was opened in its place. While retaining the Sundown name, the property is not owned by the person who owned the theatre.

  • At least one more season left at the Sundown Drive-In. http://preview.tinyurl.com/5top58 Published: Saturday, March 22, 2008 The sun hasn't set on Saskatoon's last drive-in just yet. Sundown Drive-In owners Duffy and Rose Besenski had hoped to retire after 43 years of running the theatre, which sits just outside the city's east end at highways 5 and 41. Rose said it wasn't to be this year -- an offer to buy the land "went kaput" when some potential buyers discovered they couldn't use the land for what they wanted.
