The charming town of Gennep has an interesting past as a fortified city. In the historic core numerous buildings still remember of earlier times, such as the beautiful town hall, the Protestant church on the market, the Martinustoren, the Museum het Petershuis and the medieval city wall and its green moat dating back to the Middle Ages. The rustic street scene is further colored by the shopping center, various events and terraces on the market. Just outside the medieval city wall is the Niers Park, an oasis of calm at the quirky winding river Niers. The surrounding diverse landscape of Gennep also provides a good base for walking and cycling in the vicinity.
