  • Maquam Bay, Franklin County, Vermont. Elevation of 29 meters, or 95 feet. Maquam Bay is located on the northeastern end of Lake Champlain in Franklin County Vermont. It is between 2 and 2.5 miles (3.6 km) across and a mile (1.6 km) wide. For depth the bay can be divided into the shallows primarily along the northern and western shores 1 to 4 feet of depth and navigate able portion between 20 and 30 feet of depth. The northern portion of the bay is comprised of the Maquam Bay Wildlife Management Area and marsh land. To the west is the southern end of what is called Hog Island and Hog Point. Maquam, once known as Swanson Harbor, is located on the eastern side of Maquam bay. Maquam’s physical harbor is approximately 1,500 feet across and 150 feet wide with a depth to 10 feet. The waters of Lake Champlain make up the southern boundary of the bay popular for windsurfing enthusiasts. Swanton Vermont and the Missisquoi River are about two miles to the east and the Canadian United States border is nine miles to the north.
