Ritsumeikan University inaugurated the Research Center for Urban Cultural Heritage Disaster Mitigation to serve as a permanent research base for promoting the COE program. In addition to the COE program, the center's activities will include joint research by academia, industry, and government institutions, disaster preparedness efforts for cultural heritage inside and outside of Japan, and active involvement or advisory roles in urban disaster prevention programs
