CDP - Census Designated Place
Add category

Avila Beach is a Census Designated Place in San Luis Obispo County, California.
The population was 1,627 in the 2010 census.
For decades this was an authentic fishing village, with fresh fish markets on the boardwalk and waterfront bars where real sailors would relax after a day's catch. A couple of disasters involving underground gasoline and oil pipelines damaged much of the boardwalk area in the 1980s, and after the second one, the Unocal oil company admitted guilt and paid to have essentially the whole town torn down and rebuilt from scratch.
