It was built as an 18,000-seat stadium with an area of 20,000 square metres for the 1990 Asian Games. Several years after the Asian Games, the stadium began to look old. Now a large-scale reconstruction has transformed the stadium into a 38,000-seat stadium with an area of 34,975 square metres ready to host the Cross Country and Show Jumping disciplines on the Modern Pentathlon of the 2008 Summer Olympics.
