Kikonda is one of the commercial centres in Kiboga, located on Kampala-Hoima Highway. It serves as the frontier post of Buganda and Kiboga. It flourshed by hosting a construction company Stirling Ltd. which tarmacked the highway in the early 2000's. Nowadays, with an increasing population, it booms in much agricultural production representing the entire Nsambya Sub-county.
Long ago this place, 4 km south of River Kafu, belonged to the reign of Bunyoro-Kitara Dynasty. General Mukonda of Buganda was victorious in the expansionist wars against Bunyoro in 1890's. After successfully conquering the land up until River Kafu, he was bestowed with a strip of plots, which consists present-day Kikonda. Though other conquered territories in Kibale, commonly referred to as Lost Counties, were retrieved by residents in Bunyoro by referendum in 1962, this village still remains under Buganda rule.
People have migrated to Kikonda in pursuit of big chunks of virgin land for cultivation and accessibility to markets. They mainly consist of farming Basoga and cattle-keeping Banyankore/Banyarwanda, together with Bakiga/Bafumbira and Bagisu from mountainous regions, native Banyoro/Baganda, and minority Teso/Luo communities.
The village has a Police Post, Health Centre III, public and private nursery/primary schools with a tobacco market, agro-processors, restaurants & bars, and clinics.
