(비단섬/緋緞島)
This island comprises the bulk of Sindo County. It was formed in 1958 by land reclamation between several smaller islands, and is the westernmost point in Korea. The only settlements on the island are Pidansom Worker's District and Sindo Town, the capital of Sindo County. Most of the island is covered by fields of cultivated reeds, the county's primary export.
This island has occasionally been promoted as the site of a "Free Trade Zone" meant to bring in needed Chinese currency.
"Pidan" means red satin.
