The abandoned 1930s Sara & Cook Warehouse, originally designed by Oldham Boas Ednie-Brown, located at 484 Murray Street Perth, was to be transformed into the new and dynamic office for engineer and client BG&E. The warehouse was previously home to the homeless, street kids and midnight rave parties! As a result the internal skin of the warehouse is layered in graffiti and murals, by both local and international graffiti artists. As part of the concept to retain the buildings recent integrity all inoffensive graffiti was retained, this filled the office with vibrant colours and expressed the history and memory of the buildings

past. A total of 1200m2 of space was required, with maximisation of the on site car parking. The clients utilitarian brief required a cost effective solution which mandated that the shell and structure of the one storey building receive minimal intervention. As a result the upper mezzanine and basement carpark effectively remained untouched. All insertions were analysed to ensure that only the bare essentials that were required to provide an invigorating workplace for 51 staff were incorporated. A second tenancy was also required to initially lease separately, and to allow future expansion of the engineering office subject to need.
