La Rondinaia (The Swallow's Nest) is a magnificent villa at Ravello on the Amalfi coast in Italy, owned by the famous writer Gore Vidal. This amazing residence sits at the top of a 300 meters (1,000 ft) mountain commanding breathtaking views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The house was constructed in the 1920s by a British architect and is surrounded by 6 acres property with cypress, lemon, and olive groves. A paradise of 465 square meters (5,000 sq. ft.) where many notable guests stayed at: Princess Margaret, Tennessee Williams, Greta Garbo, Andy Warhol, Bruce Springsteen, Rudolf Nureyev, Mick and Bianca Jagger, Lauren Bacall.

For much of the late twentieth century, Vidal divided his time between Ravello, Italy on the Amalfi Coast and Los Angeles, California. In 2003, he sold his 5,000 square foot (460 m²) cliffside Ravello villa (La Rondinaia, The Swallow's Nest) for health reasons.Gore Vidal died in 2012.

  • La rondinaia was built by Commendatore Nicola Mansi (He was also later the "Sindaco di Ravello" It was built for a british Countess, name Frost. If I remember well she was related to Anthony Eden
