Windmill 'de Put' (Leiden)

Netherlands / Zuid-Holland / Leiden / Park de Put, 11
 windmill, interesting place

This is a modern reconstruction of a mill from the 17th century, built in 1987. It is a post-mill -- that is, the entire mechanism is balanced on a post so that it can turn to face the wind. It is a reasonable replica of a mill that stood on the same location from 1619 to 1729, grinding grain for the residents of Leiden. As reconstructed, the windmill turns a single millstone.
