Ras Kamboni, alleged to be the base of the Islamist organizations al-Ittihaad al-Islamiya (AIAI) and Al Qaeda. In January 2007, it became the target of an assault by the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia and its Ethiopian allies to defeat the militia of the Islamic Courts Union (ICU), and United States forces searching for Al Qaeda operatives.
