Runway 10-28, built over 10 lanes of Interstate 285, is Hartsfield-Jackson's newest runway. The 9,000 ft. runway, built at a cost of $1.28 billion, is the first addition to the airport since 1984. The fifth runway is expected to increase the capacity for landings and takeoffs by 40%, from an average of 184 flights an hour to 237 flights an hour.
