Quinta do Barreiro, located in Barreiro (also called Barreira) in Vilarinho dos Freires.

Vilarinho dos Freires has been populated since the Iron Age, later followed byroman fortifications and the roman road to Bracara Augusta. The word "Vilarinho" stands for a small village and "Freires" comes from the Order of the Templars that contributed to the agricultural development in the area.

Quinta do Barreiro is among the biggest farms of its parish, with a a total of 150000 square meters (or 15 hcts) of vineyards. Barreiro (or Barreira) etymology suggests the origin of the Quinta's name lies on the steep hill it is located and the rough terrain, that represents an obstacle. It has a fantastic view over the valley of River Tanha.

The vineyards are located at 250-400 meters of altitude, facing West, in schist soil.

It has been on the hands of the Quinas Guerra family for over 80 years although the main building dates from the late XVIII century. It came to the hands of the family when inherited by Francisco Guerra. Other constructions were conducted during the 1950's by José Quinas Guerra. Recent years have seen further renovation of the farm houses and surrounding social areas by José Luís Quinas Guerra. It is now the fourth generation of Quinas Guerra family to agricult these lands.
