Mojstrana is a neat little settlement where two valleys, the Zgornjesavska valley and the Vrata valley meet. The small hamlet appeared at end of the 14th century when iron ore was mined and smelted in the nearby iron foundry.
The village has long been associated with mountaineering. It is estimated that the first mountain-guide service was established here in the beginning of the 19th century. When Jakob Aljaz came to Dovje as the parish priest, he became the driving force behind establishing mountain trails and the construction of mountain huts in the Triglav range.
