This brackish tidal marsh is the site of an intensive research project to investigate methods to integrate satellite and airborne remote sensing iamgery, LiDAR and traditional field sampling to map tidal marsh plant communities. The research is being conducted by the University of Connecticut in collaboration with scientists from Wesleyan University, USDA NRCS, and William Moorhead, a consulting ecologist. Funding for the project is being provided by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, Long Island Sound License Plate Fund and the EPA. Satellite and airborne imagery and LiDAR elevation data have been provided through projects with the Institute for the Application of Geospatial Technology, NOAA and EPA.
